A conversation log stores raw transcript text. Episodic memory stores *events* — structured summaries of what happened, when, and the outcome — indexed for fast retrieval when a new turn needs historical context. You can build episodic memory on top of a log (summarize each conversation at close, store the summary), but the log alone is too verbose to inject into the context window as-is.
